Carnival Comics Search For An Artist

Jazan Wild and Carnival Comics let BF know they are searching for an artist for their new comics.

Carnival Comics has started taking submissions for a new artist to work on some Carnival titles. "I got a couple of artists who have made my head spin," says creator and writer Jazan Wild, "but in the end it's about being able to work over a long period of time [and] not just a page. If you think that's you, please send your best to carnivalcomics@gmail.com".

A separate note from creator and writer Jazan Wild:

Just to clarify, the Carnival Artist will be signing a two year contract to complete the series. No stepping stones. No excuses. This is business, and I don't play around. My last release "It's Murphy's Law" on Nokia phones alone, had over 125,000 downloads in over 180 countries. I am represented by William Morris Endeavor. We are looking for the next big art star to show to the World! This time no fun games... Ladies and Gentlemen, it's time to Work Hard.

CBGB Teams With Boom!

BOOM! Studios and CBGB Holdings will release a sneak preview of the CBGB comic book mini-series at the SXSW CBGB Stories panel hosted by Seymour Stein, president and chairman of Sire Records. The comic book series bears not just CBGB’s name but also the attitude of the club that changed the world of music forever! For three decades the infamous venue broke acts like THE RAMONES, THE TALKING HEADS, BLONDIE, TELEVISION and many more.

During the CBGB Stories panel, a limited edition, original CBGB single page comic by Jesse Blaze Snider (DEADPOOL, TOY STORY) and Eisner Award-winner Chuck BB (BLACK METAL) will be passed out to the audience and press.

The four issue mini-series hitting store shelves this July, features the finest veteran and rookie talents in comics, portraying the tales of music, discovery, heartbreak, confusion, rebellion and greatness.

The first issue’s cover is by superstar LOVE & ROCKETS cartoonist Jaime Hernandez. Also confirmed for the anthology are Ana Matronic (songstress for Grammy-nominated band SCISSOR SISTERS), Kieron Gillen (PHONOGRAM, THOR), Kim Krizan (Academy Award-nominated writer of BEFORE SUNSET and BEFORE SUNRISE) Chuck BB (Eisner wining artist of BLACK METAL), Kelly Sue DeConnick (30 DAYS OF NIGHT: EBEN & STELLA), Rob G. (TEENAGERS FROM MARS, COURIERS), Sam Humphries (the architect behind MySpace Comics) Marc Ellerby (LOVE THE WAY YOU LOVE) and many more!

“BOOM! is all about delivering fantastic work that’s not found anywhere else,” says editor Ian Brill. “The comic industry needs an outlet for the type stories found in CBGB, and we’re happy to be the ones working hard to bring these stories to smart, discriminating readers.”

“BOOM! got what we were about” says Louise Staley of CBGB. “Our attitude jumps off every page.”

“The club was as much about those in the mosh pit as it was the bands that played there,” adds Robert Williams of CBGB. “The narrative in this series celebrates both.”

The four-issue mini-series will be followed by a mass market hardcover collection in November, produced with the same high quality and attention to detail BOOM! has invested in all their collections.

CBGB Issue #1 ships to direct market comic shops this July and features a cover by Jaime Hernandez, stories by Kieron Gillen and Sam Humphries and art by Marc Ellerby and Rob G. Both the comic series and the hardcover will be published under BOOM! Studios new alt-comix label BOOM! Town.

Preview: Twilight's Kristen Stewart

Actress Kristen Stewart became an instant celebrity the moment she signed on to play Bella, the love interest of vampire-with-a-soul Edward in the Twilight series of vampire/romance movies based on the popular novels of the same name.

Now Stewart is making the leap to full-on celebrity: She is the newest star of Bluewater Productions' Fame series of biography comics coming in June.

But Stewart has been acting long before Twilight, and most of her work hasn't involved vampires or werewolves. In fact, anyone who has watched the coming-of-age drama/comedy Adventureland, knows just how powerful of an actress Stewart can be.

Fame brings to life in graphic form the stories of the world's biggest celebrities. The series premieres in May and covers the life stories of Lady GaGa & Robert Pattinson. Future editions will include the stories of Taylor Swift and soccer sensation David Beckham.

Writer Kim Sherman, who has also penned Bluewaters' Robert Pattinson entry in the series, said that Stewart's versatility and talent might surprise readers who only know her as Bella.

“For Twilight fans, Kristen Stewart is a woman whom fans long to be and love to hate,” Sherman said. “But Kristen has been in the public eye for years, and her career as a serious actor spans dozens of films over a 10-year period of time. My goal with this biography was to show readers the depth residing in this young woman and the roles she's beautifully tackled through a series of spot shots, pinups and word art.”

Sherman added that the art on this book, provided by renowned artist Warren Martineck, perfectly brings Stewart's story to life.

“Well-known artist Warren Martineck, of Marvel and D.C. fame, takes my script and provides an amazing viewpoint of the beauty, the grit and the individuality which defines Miss Stewart,” Sherman said.

The 32-page comic book, Fame: Kristen Stewart will be available in June, and will retail for $3.99. Two covers will be available: cover A, by Juanmar Studios which attaches like a puzzle to the Fame: Robert Pattinson issue. Cover B is done by famed comic book artist Randy Green (X-men, Emma Frost, Witchblade).

Bluewater Productions has become well-known for its biography comics. In addition to its Fame series, the company also publishes both the Female Force and Political Power line of biography comics. March 31st comes the release of Female Force: Ellen Degeneres.

“I look at every one of our biography comics as a way to lead a new group of readers to the world of graphic storytelling,” said Darren G. Davis, president of Bluewater Productions. “I have little doubt that Kristen Stewart's biography will accomplish this.”

After an absence of eight years, America's foremost Latin heroine, Murciélaga She-Bat, returns at last in a ten-issue bimonthly comic book series from Heroic Publishing and Studio G, featuring her classic adventures combined with new stories by her creator, the Russ Manning award-winning Dærick Gröss Sr.

In Murciélaga She-Bat #8, hidden secrets of America's foremost Latin heroine will be revealed at last in "A Night in the Life," with story and artwork by Dærick Gröss Sr., featuring guest appearances by Murciélaga's Reiki Warriors partner, Soliloquy Jones, and her oldest enemy, Mister Slimey.

Also in this issue, for the first time in color, Murciélaga finds herself caught up in a conspiracy of mystery involving six mystic rings and the occult criminal organization, DEMON.
Chapter One of "Rings for a Demon" is by Martin Powell, Patrick Oliffe, and Rob Lansley, with color work by Dærick Gröss Sr. himself.

The eight-part "Rings for a Demon" sequence, which originally saw print in the mid-1990s as black-and-white back-up features in various Heroic Publishing titles, will be serialized in color in Murciélaga She-Bat #8-15, and lead directly into issue #16, with a book-length adventure featuring the return of Dærick Gröss's Reiki Warriors.

Final Scott Pilgrim Volume Released in July

Oni Press has released the cover to the final volume of Bryan Lee O'Malley's Scott Pilgrim epic. Oni also announced that the book, Scott Pilgrim Vol. 6: Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, will be on sale July 20.

The announcement was made on Oni's official blog. Both O'Malley and Oni publisher Joe Nozemack offered some comments.

O'Malley:

“It’s been quite a ride, and I couldn’t have gotten here without the support of the fans and the retailers,” said O’Malley. “It feels great to be in the home stretch, and I think this is going to be the best Scott Pilgrim book ever!”

Nozemack :

“I’m convinced that Scott Pilgrim will go down as one of those series that changed comics forever. When I’m out and see someone wearing a Scott Pilgrim t-shirt or sitting in a cafe reading one of the books, I get so excited about comics entering the mainstream and to know that Oni Press’ books are helping lead the way, it’s an indescribable feeling. I can’t wait to see the reaction to the final volume!”

Winick and Basri Form Power Girl's New Team

Just a week ago, DC Comics announced that the complete Paperfilm-crew, responsible for the amazing success of Power Girl is rounding up at #12 and from then on a new team will step up the plate.

Paperfilm, which consists of Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray and Amanda Conner, responded that Conner was dedicated on the book for a year, but could not be on the book longer. Adding a new artist to the team after Conner left wasn't something Palmiotti or Gray wanted to consider. So, they decided it was best to bow out as well and let a completely new creative team take over!

The DCU Source blog made the announcement that the new team consists of writer Judd Winnick and artist Sam Basri and made more than one hint to Justice League Europe (of which Kara was also a member off), Justice League International and the new Winick-written Justice League: Generation Lost.

Or as Winick said himself:

“It is with GREAT fear and excitement that Sami and I leap into this gig. Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Amanda Conner have bought an amazing, fresh, and inventive rebirth to this character. Our greatest challenge will be to remain faithful to what they’ve created and also take Power Girl to a new place. As far as the course that the story will take, I’ll be uncharacteristically forthcoming : The story is tied to JUSTICE LEAGUE: GENERATION LOST. Not CHAINED to it, but tied. Power Girl has a history with the JLI that will be explored. A lot.”
